Social Networking Overload

Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Xing... well if you are not following where I am going you probably still own a rotary phone.

2 years back, the first thing I did when I logged into my computer is check my hotmail and yahoo, the first thing I do today is check my facebook and twitter.

Everyday there is a new social networking site popping up and with all these choices comes a digital daze. Well you can't be in all the clubs, remember there is only 24 hours in a day, you have to eat and for that you have to work.

So how can you avoid the social networking stress disorder? Well if you don't have any social networking presence trust me you haven't missed anything, there is plenty of light in your tunnel. Remember the match.com slogan "Its OK to look" so you can start your social networking shopping - register with a couple of popular websites and see how you like your experience but the mostly important thing - see how you are networking with your friends. Please remember you are not an outlaw. You are shopping because you want to network with your friends not the service provider.

Once you have tasted the blood now you can define a strategy for your hunting. Apart from choosing one main, general networking site you should also choose one that target your profession and industry. It is very likely that you work and also a possibility you might loose your work, so professional networking comes handy.

I personally use Facebook as my main, LinkedIn for my professional networking, twitter for messaging and that's it.... that's it.

Once you have defined all these, you will see its not bad as it looks... you still might get the side effects which include -

"social amnesia, social anxiety, carpal tunnel and of course social networking stress disorder"
