Ofcourse 'Diamonds are forever'. Pure diamond is the hardest known natural mineral substance and will scratch any other natural material. Now I am not getting into the nomenclature of Carbon, you can visit Wikipedia for it.
The $600.00 dollars that was in my bank account before I bought my engagement ring is gone, the engagement for which the ring was for is gone, the marriage for which the engagement was for is gone (landed in divorce) - do you think the diamond is gone? Of course not, it is either increasing the asset portfolio, or lying in a pawn shop or may it landed in the fingers of another woman. Do you think it lost its value?
Diamond companies and merchants across the world have successfully planted the statement 'Love (diamonds) are forever' and its the very carat that increases the value of the diamond determines your undying devotion and commitment to your better half.
"Diamond is made up of repeating units of carbon atoms joined to four other carbon atoms via the strongest chemical linkage, covalent bonds." Well I don't know much about covalent bonds but there exists a strong bond between - diamond and $$$$$ and for that matter love.
Next time you are about to pick that $1000.00 ring for your girlfriend, think about it, with the swipe of your credit card you started the life cycle of another piece of diamond. You and me will pass away but that piece of diamond will be there - in its beauty and grace and a value attached to it, and its not your love its the $$$$.
