Green Dating

Thursday, August 28, 2008

Green is the buzzword today. These days when the gas is hitting the $4.00 mark, being 'not-green' is so old fashion.

There is a serious consensus that using the word 'eco' in nick names like eco_treehugger, eco_virgin22 help you get laid or get a date. Well we are familiar with - green cars, green computer, green clothes, green electricity but how about 'Green Dating'.

Ever heard of a non-profit company called ZeroFootPrint or for that matter the concept of Carbon Footprint? The first time someone asked me my carbon footprint, I replied- "Eight". Thinking he was asking my shoe size.

Well Carbon related to cars, heating, food etc. is understood but dating? How on earth can a kiss cause carbon emission? May be there is an answer to that question, I don't know. But the point is, where are we going with this? What's next? Green marriage, green kids? Websites like GreenSingles.com, GreenPassions.com are becoming the safe haven for singles who eat and drink 'Global Warming'. But can we use the same criteria to choose our mates as we use to choose our bathroom cleaners? Someone said, "If you form a Cult, they will follow".

A quick visit to one of the popular green dating sites and I came across nick names like - lambfeathers, ecomaster, gopolar. It was rejuvenating to find sexual orientation as eco-sexual instead of hetero or bi. I was relieved to find that the gender option still had 2 choices.

One profile wrote - "Naturist, bi, eco-friendly seeking love; must love dogs". I wonder how do I kill the ozone layer by writing "Looking for girl, like minded, friendly, blah blah..."? This beyond my intelligence!

I am green in my way and I do that by - Car pooling, Recycling paper and avoiding plastic bags. But the thought of riding to work, going on a date wearing only body hair or looking for a Eco-sexual date on a green dating site is depressing and so unromantic.

What is your idea of green dating and do you know your carbon footprint? Let us know.

Celebrity Spotlight - Brad Pitt

Wednesday, August 27, 2008

Brad Pitt finally won the best actor award he won from the Venice Film Festival in 2007 for "The Assassination Of Jesse James".

The movie was slow but I really liked his performance. Among all the movies of Brad Pitt, "The Legends of the fall" is my personal favorite.

William Bradley Pitt popularly known as Brad Pitt was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, the son of Jane Etta (née Hillhouse), a high school counselor, and William Alvin Pitt, a truck company owner. He attended Kickapoo High School, where he was involved in sports, debating, student government, and acting. He attended the Missouri School of Journalism at the University of Missouri. He is a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.

Pitt was chosen by Empire magazine as one of the 25 sexiest stars in film history. Pitt has also twice been named the Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine. In 2007, Pitt was listed among artists and entertainers as one of Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People in The World.

Picture Story Of The Day

Minimum wage that's all I asked for...

Well a bowl of Puppy Chow will do.

Online Dating Scams

Every single day 10 minutes of my morning time is spent, sipping a hot cup of coffee and deleting spam mails.

You know the funny part, I read them... I am very curious to find the story that the person on the other side is writing. I have read all kinds of stories, you name it - "my cancer stricken wife counting her last days... Microsoft Online Lottery Lucky Draw (Imagine Microsoft Lottery)... A millionaire couple dead on a plane crash who left behind money for me...FBI watch list has verified I have legit money..." the list is endless.

Anyway the point is this is not funny, this is serious business. There are people earning money either by scamming or by stealing your identity. And surprisingly 90% of the mails I receive are from African countries, how I know? Well from the addresses written in the mails. I have no prejudice against people from those regions but ironically I came to know of two incidents in my close circle, which happen to involve people from Nigeria.

There was a breaking story today from New Zealand.

"A Porirua woman lost $10,000 to a scammer who told her that he was a widower, and employed by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation in Lagos.

In one scam he emailed her a business letter showing US$200,000 ($290,740) he had deposited in a United States bank account.

Police believe the same scammer was responsible for extorting almost $70,000 from an Auckland woman - using a similar story."

I don't make that money burning 40 hours a week.

For more on the story, read the article published in New Zealand Herald.

Social Networking Overload

Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Xing... well if you are not following where I am going you probably still own a rotary phone.

2 years back, the first thing I did when I logged into my computer is check my hotmail and yahoo, the first thing I do today is check my facebook and twitter.

Everyday there is a new social networking site popping up and with all these choices comes a digital daze. Well you can't be in all the clubs, remember there is only 24 hours in a day, you have to eat and for that you have to work.

So how can you avoid the social networking stress disorder? Well if you don't have any social networking presence trust me you haven't missed anything, there is plenty of light in your tunnel. Remember the match.com slogan "Its OK to look" so you can start your social networking shopping - register with a couple of popular websites and see how you like your experience but the mostly important thing - see how you are networking with your friends. Please remember you are not an outlaw. You are shopping because you want to network with your friends not the service provider.

Once you have tasted the blood now you can define a strategy for your hunting. Apart from choosing one main, general networking site you should also choose one that target your profession and industry. It is very likely that you work and also a possibility you might loose your work, so professional networking comes handy.

I personally use Facebook as my main, LinkedIn for my professional networking, twitter for messaging and that's it.... that's it.

Once you have defined all these, you will see its not bad as it looks... you still might get the side effects which include -

"social amnesia, social anxiety, carpal tunnel and of course social networking stress disorder"

Celebrity Spotlight - Tom Cruise

Tuesday, August 26, 2008

Nearly a dozen extras who worked on Valkyrie, a world war II era film, have filed a $11 million lawsuit against Tom Cruise and his production company United Artists, over injuries allegedly sustained while filming.

The actors reportedly suffered several broken bones, cuts and bruises during the incident, when the side panel of their German Army truck burst open as the vehicle turned a corner.

Thomas Cruise Mapother IV better known as Tom Cruise, was born in Syracuse, New York, the son of Mary Lee, a special education teacher, and Thomas Cruise Mapother III, an electrical engineer.

Cruise has said that he suffered from abuse as a child. This was partially due to his dyslexia. He stated that when something went wrong, his father came down hard on him. Cruise started acting after being sidelined from his high school's wrestling team due to a knee injury. While injured, he successfully auditioned for a lead role in his high school's production of Guys and Dolls and decided to become an actor after his success in the role.

Forbes
magazine ranked him as the world's most powerful celebrity in 2006. He has been nominated for three Academy Awards and won three Golden Globe Awards.
